Global Warming: Fact or Fiction

Let this brief article be your Inspiration to investigate the topic of Global Warming and whether you should take some kind of action with regard to it. It is not particularly difficult to find information on Google. Here are a few facts that were found in a few minutes of surfing the web.

  • The world consumes 80 million barrels of oil per day in the summer and 88 million barrels of oil per day in the winter.

  • The United States consumes approximately 400 million gallons of gasoline per day.

  • Since hydrocarbon fuels have carbon as their main component by weight and one gallon weighs about 8 pounds. One gallon of gasoline can produce as much as 5 to 6 pounds of carbon dioxide. That means that the United States alone produces around 2 billion pounds of carbon dioxide each and every day just from the gasoline it burns. That is a staggering number.

  • Plants are the primary means of converting carbon dioxide back into oxygen. The reality is that the amount of foliage is decreasing at an alarming rate in order to meet the lumber and other needs of the human population.

  • The vast majority of independent scientists (those not funded by oil, timber, and other interests) agree that a dramatic reduction in carbon dioxide is critically important. Some believe that levels must be reduced by 70% by the year 2050 and that we have only about 10 years to start the reversal.

  • Temperature is rising exponentially over the last decades.

  • Immediately following 9/11 air traffic in the United States was grounded for several days. In that time, there was a noticeable increase in temperature because the particulate contaminant emissions from the jets was not blocking the sun. So, the problem may be more serious than is immediately apparent.

  • The 10 hottest years ever measured have all occurred in the last 14 years and 2005 was the hottest year on record.

  • Hurricane Katrina strength storms is thought by many scientists to be the result of higher water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico.

This certainly gets the brain cells thinking, doesn't it? Certainly, there are also sites on the web that say global warming is a myth. The point is that this is an issue so massively important that everyone should take the time to inform themselves about it. It is not about conservative or liberal or Democrat or Republican because if the global warming proponents are correct, everybody looses. Two interesting search topics are "global warming" and "an inconvenient truth".

Keep an open mind. If you agree that global warming is a problem or if you just come to the conclusion that it important to not take the risk that global warming proponents could be right, then Energetic Institute will be bringing you ideas for Actions that you can take. This month's action is EcoEnergizer. A gasoline additive that reduces emissions and reduces the total amount of fuel consumed. This is a small step, but it starts a journey of a thousand miles. As always we seek your input.
